Jes Schefe is a neurodivergent, queer, multidisciplinary artist based in Meanjin, whose practice is grounded in curiosity, introspection, and the belief that creativity can be a powerful form of healing.

Working across drawing, painting, textiles, sewing, knitting, and mixed media, Jes approaches art as both a therapeutic ritual and a means of making sense of the world. Creating is not simply an outcome but a daily practice of reflection—one that offers space to process emotion, navigate complexity, and reconnect with herself.

At the heart of her work is an enduring fascination with line-work, the human form, and figure drawing. Through deliberate, expressive marks, she explores themes of mental health, identity, gender, sexuality, intimacy, resilience, and the lived experience of navigating the world as a neurodivergent person. Rather than pursuing perfection, her work embraces vulnerability, allowing each line to become a record of feeling, presence, and human connection.

Whether sketching a figure, stitching together fabric, layering paint, or working with fibre, Jes sees every medium as another language through which stories can be told. Her multidisciplinary practice reflects the belief that healing is rarely linear—it is layered, repetitive, tactile, and deeply personal.

Through minimalism and restraint, Jes creates work that invites viewers to slow down, sit with discomfort, and find beauty in authenticity. Her pieces are quiet conversations about what it means to inhabit a body, hold emotion, and exist within an ever-changing world. Ultimately, her practice is an invitation to pause, reflect, and recognise ourselves in one another.
